Simple Minds return to Portugal for a concert in the Algarve Football stadium, on the 28th of July, in the first edition of ‘Algarve Rocks ’.

Way back in 1980 the Scottish band stepped on to the stage in Portugal for the first time. At that time their style was art-rock and played in the first half of two concerts by Peter Gabriel in Cascais. Astonishingly the crowds cheered and whistled and really liked them.

Normally bands playing in the first half are given a hard time by audiences.

Eleven years later Simple Minds return to Portugal, but by now, they are well established in the music world. Their music, along with U2, was the trendiest of the pop world in the 80´s, with successes such as “(Don’t you) Forget about me”, “Alive & Kicking” a “Sanctify Yourself”.

Now they’re on the track of selling millions of records, having come a long way from their obscure beginning with “Johnny and the Self Abusers”, although the band still opted for the punk sound. After the successes of the 80´s Simple Minds remain on the crest of a wave, but now they return a little to their original project, or at least, to what they call inspirational pop.

Of late they haven’t had the level of success as in 1985 and 1986, however, they still maintain a faithful group of admirers.

Since 1986 they have regularly performed in Portugal on a regular basis.
